  1.           IBM AntiVirus data file update version 2.4.1C
  2.  
  3. The data files in this update can be used to update IBM AntiVirus
  4. version 2.4.1 (or 2.4), so that it will detect (and sometimes, repair)
  5. viruses found since version 2.4.1 (or 2.4) was released.  This update can be
  6. safely applied to systems to which previous updates have been applied.
  7.  
  8. COMPLICATIONS:
  9.  
  10. AV241C.ZIP can be used to update IBM AntiVirus version 2.4.1 and 2.4.
  11. IBM AntiVirus version 2.3 can also be updated, but it will not detect
  12. all the viruses that IBMAV 2.4/2.4.1 will detect with this update
  13. applied.  We do not recommend applying this update to older versions
  14. of IBM AntiVirus. If you find that IBM AntiVirus 2.4 or earlier
  15. runs out of memory when this update is applied, try updating
  16. to IBM AntiVirus 2.4.1 and then reapplying this update.
  17.  
  18. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
  19.  
  20. -IBM AntiVirus 2.4/2.4.1 users:
  21.  
  22. - Put the files included in this zipfile onto a diskette.
  23. - Put the diskette in a diskette drive.
  24.  
  25. If you are impatient, at this point you can simply copy the files on the
  26. update diskette to your IBMAV directory. Otherwise,
  27.  
  28. - Start IBM AntiVirus.
  29. - Click on "Update".
  30. - Click on "Update".
  31. - Change the path in the update popup if you put the diskette someplace
  32.   other than "A:\"
  33. - Press the "OK" button. Wait until the files are copied.
  34.   The update procedure will take some time, up to several minutes,
  35.   especially on slow machines.
  36.  
  37. -LAN administrators:
  38.  
  39. If you are supporting a run-from-the-LAN IBMAV installation, you must
  40. replace virsig.lst, verv.vdb, shsig.lst and dtsig.lst in the IBM
  41. AntiVirus execution directory on the LAN server.
  42.  
  43. LAN administrators may want to examine the IAVEXIT examples in the IBM
  44. AntiVirus Administrator's Guide; the examples show how IAVEXIT can be
  45. used to automatically update IBM AntiVirus data files on client
  46. machines. LAN administrators may also want to peruse the section on
  47. data file updates in the IBM AntiVirus Adminstrator's Guide.
  48.  
  49. -After installation:
  50. After the data files have been updated, the next time that files are
  51. checked by IBM AntiVirus, they will autmatically be checked thoroughly
  52. to make sure that they don't have new viruses only detected by the new
  53. data files. This will take longer than a typical run of IBM AntiVirus.

  59.   IBMAV can now verify and remove the Smile virus.
